The calendar was getting too long and taking too much time to load, so I've started a new one for '06. It's here.

Special's Song - If you're hearing music right now (and depending on your browser you might or might not), the song is "My Special Angel", a Bobby Helms song from the '50s. Our Mama Special is part of the 2nd generation of a very special family of Greyhounds, known to some as the "Black Angels". Her mother was My Sweet Angel. She and all of her littermates had "Angel" in their racing names and all of them are/were black. They were fine racers and are still remembered by some faithful fans at Tri-State. When Special and her siblings came along, the Angel tradition continued. Four of the five pups were black and they all got Angel names. She was named Wag's Angel. But her original kennel name was "Deliver". She quickly became a favorite with all of the kennel personnel and she was installed in the "spoiled rotten bitch crate", on top, nearest to the kitchen, where she got the most attention and supervised all activity. "Deliver" evolved into "Special Delivery" (which her trainer used to sing to her!) and then shortened to just "Special". And after that our little diva refused to answer to anything else. Now, three years later, when she sees her old trainer she just stares at him until he sings her name to her, then she's all over him. So "My Special Angel" naturally had to be her song. And in case you're wondering, since five of our seven puppies are black, the Angel tradition will continue for this third generation. They won't have racing names until they're almost ready to go to the track, but they will be Angel names.
